Southern States Cooperative, a Southeast farm supply retailer and service cooperative, was recently recognized as Precision Farming Dealer's Most Valuable Dealership award.

The award recognizes North America's top precision agriculture operation in terms of sales, support and service of precision farming technology.

Dave Swain, Southern States' manager of precision ag, accepted the award on behalf of Southern States at a record sold-out crowd at the 2017 Precision Farming Dealer Summit in St. Louis, Missouri.

"This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of all of our Precision Ag team," Swain said. "These are the people who have and continue to work with the Southern States sales and operations team and our customers to become more profitable through precision ag tools and services. This award couldn't be attributed to a greater group of people that I have the privilege to work with on a daily basis."

According to Precision Farming Dealer, an independent panel of judges evaluated precision farming sales growth and diversity, along with how each nominee is generating revenue from hardware, software and precision service.

Southern States grew their precision ag revenue from $2 million in 2014 to $2.6 million the following year, with sales remaining flat in 2016 during one of the toughest economic downturns in agriculture, where many companies saw a significant decrease in revenue. The judges noted that the co-op's commitment to service and providing complete agronomic solutions, along with their detailed and structured internal training program, were two of the biggest determining factors that set the company apart.

"Our people make the difference with our growers and their loyalty to Southern States," said Steve Patterson, Senior Vice President of Agronomy Sales. "Using new precision ag tools to help farmers increase their profitability and be better stewards of the land is a winning combination for both parties and is exactly why we enjoy the loyalty levels we have with our customers."

This is Southern States' third agronomy award in the past year, and its fifth in the past two years. The co-op was honored with one of The Fertilizer Institute's 2016 4R Advocate awards, and has won an unprecedented three straight Agricultural Retailers Association Precision Impact Awards for the South region.
