BAYER CROPSCIENCE HONORED BY PARENTING PUBLICATIONS FOR COMPANY WORK-LIFE BALANCE
Source: Bayer CropScience news release

In recognition of Bayer CropScience's continued efforts to cultivate a healthy family environment and help employees achieve a positive work-life balance, Carolina Parent magazine has named the company, for the fourth year in a row, a winner in its Family-Friendly 50 Awards. Each year, Carolina Parent recognizes 50 companies and organizations for actively supporting and encouraging working parents in North Carolina.

Bayer Corporation has also been recognized by Working Mother magazine as one of its 2013 100 Best Companies for its commitment to progressive workplace programs. Working Mother, a parenting publication for career-committed mothers, annually recognizes companies that promote family-friendly benefits and flexible work cultures.

"We value our employees' contributions to their families and communities just as much as their commitment to our company," said Jim Blome, president and CEO of Bayer CropScience LP. "Creating a family-friendly work environment helps us engage with employees for a more positive workplace culture, advance even further in growing a healthier world, and helps them create a better future for themselves and their children."

Carolina Parent again selected Bayer CropScience for recognition due to the company's longstanding commitment to flexible hours, including a four-and-a-half-day workweek, its generous benefits program, and its concern for employees' overall health and wellness. Employees enjoy access to the company's B-Well health program, a gym with personal trainers, an on-site doctor, working mother and spouse career transition programs, and tuition reimbursements, among others.

Bayer CropScience encourages each employee to take up to 16 hours of paid time off per year for participation in volunteer initiatives, such as Passage Home, the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina, Shepherd's Table Soup Kitchen, and United Way of the Greater Triangle. Each year, the company also hosts a "Bring Your Child To Work Day," family picnics and a children's holiday party.

"All Bayer CropScience employee initiatives are designed to help people be highly effective and happy both at work and at home," said Blome.

"These measures are part of the reason we firmly stand behind our mission - 'Bayer: Science For A Better Life,' because we really do want to be a part of employees' lives. A great company needs family support, and we want to show our employees that achieving a strong work-life balance is not only possible, but also necessary for sustainable success."

Bayer ranked No. 15 on the 2013 Working Mother 100 Best Companies list, up 32 spots from 2012. This is the 10th time in the last 11 years that Bayer has been included in the national ranking.

Working Mother selected Bayer for its commitment to progressive workplace programs, including child care, flexibility, advancement and paid family leave. One particular program implemented by Bayer CropScience was the Women's Leadership Initiative (WLI), launched in 2012 to enhance education and development opportunities and position women employees as leaders within the company and their communities.

"We are proud to be a part of a company that is a leader in building initiatives that truly support all employees," said Blome. "Bayer provides working parents with modern policies that allow them to be leaders and contributors in the workplace and their communities, but most importantly within their families."

The Working Mother recognition follows a host of national and local accolades Bayer has received, including the Catalyst Award, a prestigious honor given to companies implementing new and creative solutions for ensuring women's advancement in the workplace of the 21st century.

In addition, Bayer ranked #20 on the Scientist's 2012 Top 20 "Best Places to Work in Industry" survey, Science Career's ranked Bayer #20 on the "Top 20 Employers in the Biopharmaceutical Industry" survey, and Bayer was named as one of the world's 2012 "Top 50 Most Attractive Employers" by BusinessWeek and Universum.
