PIONEER BRAND Y SERIES SOYBEANS NAMED AGRI MARKETING'S 2009 PRODUCT OF THE YEAR
Source: Agri Marketing magazine

Pioneer brand Y Series soybeans has been named Agri Marketing magazine's 2009 Product of the Year.

"The judges have set very rigorous standards for a product to be named, including the benefit and value added to the marketplace, strategic marketing, share of market and sales growth and other industry recognition the product has achieved," says Lynn Henderson. "Y Series received very high votes in all of those categories."

The launch of Y Series is the result of a proprietary matrix of traits and technologies Pioneer researchers have been developing and deploying to accelerate product development. Pioneer is employing its exclusive technologies and marker-assisted selection to boost the yield potential and improve the agronomic performance of these varieties.

"We're very honored to have Pioneer brand Y Series soybeans selected for this award," said Frank Ross, vice president and regional director for Pioneer Hi-Bred. "The market response to the Y Series soybeans has been tremendous, and we expect to see further growth in the 2010 planting season. The Y Series marked the largest product launch in Pioneer's 83-year history and was a very significant part of Pioneer's market share gain in soybeans.

"Developed using Pioneer's proprietary Accelerated Yield Technology (AYT) system, the Y Series soybeans are helping redefine soybean yield potential," said Ross. "The success of this launch was a combination of efforts by Pioneer research and development, seed production, marketing and sales professionals across North America. All involved in this effort should feel proud of this significant industry recognition."

"We will be publishing a special supplement with the next issue of Agri Marketing magazine providing in-depth look at the Y Series' remarkable success," said Henderson.

"Judges for this year's program included Dr. Dave Downey, Professor Emeritus, Purdue University; Mike Borel, Partner, The Context Network; Jerry Warner, Executive VP/Chief Management Officer, Farmers National Co.; Dave Coppess, VP/Heartland Co-op, Ron O'Hanlon, President, Crop Quest, and myself," Henderson said.

This is the 11th year the magazine has been conducting its Product of the Year program. "The program is designed to recognize outstanding technology that is being introduced to agricultural producers and the exceptional marketing program supporting it," Henderson said.

Previous winners of the award include: Dow AgroSciences' Herculex XTRA, Ethanol, Syngenta's AVICTA Complete Pak, Trimble's Ag GPS EZ-Steer, John Deere's 60 Series combine, Syngenta's Callisto herbicide, the Internet and e-business, Case IH's Magnum tractor, NK's Bt seed trait and Monsanto's Roundup Ready Trait.
